The mindset you need to apply towards any big goal that feels overwhelming or out of reach right now
The week (and year) are almost up so I thought it might be time for a pep talk.
Those of you who have taken yoga classes with me have heard me say that anyone can do hard yoga poses. Most of the poses that look “impossible” are totally within reach, if you practice the right movements regularly, and allow yourself the time to build the necessary strength and flexibility to access the pose.
You get good at what you practice.
Now you may not care about doing fancy yoga poses.
But I bet there's something you do care about that feels just slightly out of reach.
You're not sure how you'll do it. Maybe you want it, but you think it's something that's for “other people” who are stronger, smarter, or savvier than you.
The other week I held a handstand for a comfortable 15 seconds. When I did my first teacher training back in 2017, I couldn't kick both of my feet up to a wall, let alone balance.
I was intimidated by hand balancers, I didn't have the skills. I looked silly.
I heard people say what I'm saying to you now - “I was just like you once. It's possible for you too" but I was like… how???
Have you ever had the feeling of doing something that you've never done before, something that at one time you never thought you could ever do?
It's a pretty fucking cool feeling. It's why I LOVE coaching people. I love helping people see that they can be/do/have more than they were conditioned to believe.
I learned a few things from my handstand journey that are transferrable to any big goal of yours that feels far, overwhelming, or out of reach right now, so I wanted to consolidate them for you here.
TRY THIS
I want to start by saying, my progress really took off when I got intentional about what action I needed to take - which only really started in the last 6 months. I couldn't hold a freestanding handstand a month ago. The following three pieces were essential, and I wouldn't have made progress without them.
Get inspired. Find people who are living, breathing, and doing the thing that what you want. When you see other people just like you who have the thing you want, it will make you believe it is possible for you too.
Keep taking action and doing the work even though you don't see immediate progress. Your work builds on itself, so you must keep going, stay consistent and trust in the process.
Break your goal down into actionable steps that you can tackle day to day. If you don't know where to start or what steps to take, who can you turn to for the answers? There is someone out there who has them. Find them. If you know what to do but are struggling with your mindset? I'm here to support you as your coach.
What are you letting yourself believe is out of reach for you? Do you think maybe somehow, there might be a way?
P.S. I'm currently taking client bookings for January. You can check out my coaching packages here. When you sign up for a coaching immersion, you also get access to the Self Study Library - a video library of yoga classes, personal development workshops and worksheets to work through in your spare time.
I've also just added the option to book a one-off 90-minute power coaching call and have a few spots available before the end of the year if you're ready to take action now.
And if you want to learn how to handstand 😉 or anything yoga, check out my yoga offerings here.
