Choosing Love Over Fear
The teachings that Swami Chidananda shared last weekend at our special edition Show Up have been simmering in my mind all week.
One on the ideas that stuck with me is that part of our spiritual practice is to strive to become fearless. I had never though about this before.
When we feel fear, we often let it influence our actions. Thinking we might lose something, or that something bad might happen, we take whatever action we think will help us avoid this. And so, we’re acting from a place of limitation.
To think about this in practice, the kinds of fear I often see show up in my coaching clients are:
- The fear of judgement
- The fear of failure
- The fear of being seen or heard
- The fear of putting themselves out there
- The fear of resistance to implementing their boundaries
- The fear of rejection when they’re their authentic selves
Think about how these fears have kept you small, and stopped you from taking the action you know you need to take?
The alternative, Swami explained, is to switch gears from fear to love.
What would happen if you were to embrace the potential for judgement/failure/rejection, to cultivate love for yourself and the situation despite the difficulty it may bring? What actions would you take then?
There’s so much wisdom within yoga and spiritual teachings like this, that I like to bring it into the coaching work when it feels relevant to the client.
If coaching is something you’ve been considering, I’ve got 3 spots left to begin coaching in January.
Make sure you set up a discovery call with me in the next two weeks so that we can get you scheduled in to kick of 2024 together, taking charge of your goals!
